MIke Hughes
After a distinguished 12-year Air Force career focused on Offensive Avionics, Bombing/Navigation, and Electro-Optical Viewing systems on the B-52 G & H model bombers, I transitioned to civilian life by leveraging my technical expertise in support of Air Force research and development efforts at Rome Laboratories. My journey into the civilian sector took a significant step forward when I accepted a position in contract electronics design and manufacturing. In this role, I designed a variety of devices and systems for civilian applications. Notably, in 1994, I developed an innovative device that coupled a GPS receiver to a purpose-built 8-bit computer installed in a vehicle. By interfacing this device with an analog 3-watt bag phone, I created a primitive GPS vehicle tracking system—a precursor to today's IoT technologies.
In 2000, I founded Track Star International, Inc., based on my GPS tracking and communications device designs. As President and CEO through 2023, I spearheaded the transformation of Track Star's software products by adopting a SaaS subscription sales model in 2004. This shift was complemented by the strategic integration of devices into our software platform through partnerships with various device manufacturers. In 2022, I successfully sold the company to a software investment firm and now serve as Strategic Advisor and Solutions Architect to the new management team. Additionally, I contribute to merger and acquisition efforts with the new owners.
Leading a team of incredibly talented individuals, I am proud to have driven the evolution of products originating from my early designs. Track Star is recognized as a pioneer and founder in the GPS, telematics, and video telematics fleet management industry. Our ongoing advancements continue to benefit customers across the United States.
In my personal life, I am a licensed Amateur Radio operator with a General class license. I also enjoy classic cars and motorcycles, as well as shooting sports.
